Pheasant View Lodge

My experience at Pheasant View Lodge by Tom Horsley:

 

"Let me tell you that it was nothing less than surreal. I and Chad (owner’s son) walked around the corner of a wooded area and the sky grew dark. I have seen 200+ blackbirds get up and fly before, but this was much different. There were so many pheasants that they literally blocked out the sun for a moment. I was so excited to see this and was able to knock down two birds out of that bunch.

This is only one area of the property that is available to hunt. I believe that it is the most pristine piece of pheasant hunting land that my eyes have ever seen. The land management is phenomenal. From the shelter belts lined with evergreens and young trees, to the tillable areas that are left standing to provide a food source for the birds. I will say that South Dakota encourages the CRP program, but the owners of Pheasant View take it up a level.

2008 will be my 9^th consecutive year hunting the property. If I live to be 80, that will be my 50^th year. I would encourage anyone that enjoys upland hunting to consider pheasant View as their destination of choice.

By the way, I did not mention the opportunities to hunt prairie chickens, sharp-tailed grouse, coyote’s, turkeys and prairie dogs. It is truly a unique experience that any upland hunter would cherish."

"I recently had the pleasure of participating in a pheasant hunt with Gary Travnicek at the G & J Travnicek Hunting Service in Gregory, SD.  Gary, his wife Janice, son in-law Rich Weller and their daughter Kay Weller greeted me with a genuine level of hospitality I have never experienced before while hunting.  The hunting was phenomenal!!  It isn’t that good on TV.  We never needed to hunt for longer than 2 hours for all 6 of us to fill our limit. The sheer number of birds and opportunities to take them was a true reflection and reward for all of Gary’s years of cultivating and managing his properties for success.  I was paired up with a great group of hunters and a talented team of dogs.  I’m convinced there can’t be a better deal for pheasant hunting.  Gary and Janice are giving it away.  I hope to make a tradition of this adventure to beautiful Gregory, South Dakota.
